Gang, I recently connected to the freestyle server and had a serious crash. I didnt reconnect as I needed to restart and had a few things to do. I just joined a game of MH on the freestyle and it says I have been kicked due to a failed integrity check of my UTmenu.u file. I deleted it but then UT would not start. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Uh oh, here another player with the same issue...
...if you read my old posts, you'll notice that I had the same issue of "integrity check" some time ago on a different file (the in-famous "BotPack.u" file)...we have discussed for weeks about it on forum, this is really a very annoying problem ! Luckily, Draco said that is related to casual files corruptions...so don't give up !
...this is my advice:
now I've just sent you by email my working copy (zipped) of the "UTMenu.u" file: simply unzip it and copy it in UT/System folder, then start UT...this should work !
greetings,
Pietro |

Thanks a million Mr P! I actually grabbed Legend killers from his computer and got it working. I believe this happened because of a "crash" I had during a previous map. Replacing the file worked like a charm! Thanks to you and Strych9 for sorting this out! |

It was the Wiggy Bot that caused the crash!

I can only assume that the game has files "open" while the game is in use. When you crashed the file was not closed properly and some erroneous data was written to it. In most cases the game would have started up and gone on without you knowing any different, but because we use UTDC utmenu.u and a few other files are checked by MD5 sum. Any alteration in the file returns a non match on the MD5 and you get the failed integrity check.
It is this reason that I do not practice the ban on failed integrity check like some other clans do.
I hope this will no longer be an issue when we do away with UTDC and move to ACE when it is released in the near future.
Thank you,

Hi Strych9,
thanks for keeping an eye on this: probably me, WigSPLITTER and maybe other players would be lifetime banned on many other servers...
...I have a question about it:
may these files corruptions also have any consequences on UT local gameplay at long term ? during online gameplay, UTDC simply kicks off the player who fails integrity check but what happens locally on his/her UT99 ?
for example, I've experimented that after the kick-offs from the freestyle server, my UT GOTY indeed worked well on local (practice session) but I have not tested it so many times to say that there aren't any problems at all, therefore, in case I don't replace the corrupted file with a fresh one, I don't know if the file corruption can have any effects at long term in LAN, WAN or local gameplay...
Any idea ? has anyone maybe experimented this issue on pc ?
Thanks in advance,
Pietro

I honestly think whatever it does when it crashes would have no effect on local play or online play for that matter if it were not for UTDC. It does the MD5 sum which is like a finger print for files. If anything changes the MD5 sum changes. I am thinking that a bit gets flipped or something small. Next time it happens you could run a file compare and see what changed just for fun. |

I don't know much of what's happening, but I remember a long time ago Draco and them discussed this same issue on the FUN forums. I can't help with the integrity test thing but maybe somebody there can if people are still in the dark. cheers. |

Thanks for the info, we have discussed this issue also here some time ago. Luckily, we have proved that to solve the problem we only need to replace the corrupted file (which fails integrity check) with a working one from another UT copy. Anyway, if it is possible, it would be interesting indeed to know how to avoid this kind of problems...
UTDC integrity check fail is a very annoying problem but we have also seen that UT often crashes for many other reasons (OpenGL, etc...)...uff...sometimes I think I can only pray |
